Munch – Horses Ploughing | Late Expressionist Oil 1929

Painted in the final decade of Munch’s life, this agrarian scene reflects his return to Norwegian rural subjects at Ekely estate. The muscular forms of the workhorses dissolve into gestural strokes, merging labor and landscape in his mature expressionist vocabulary.
